Geometry

Syllabus and class materials
Picture
  • Geometry is taught through a combination of live, interactive webinars and in-person sessions.
  • This is a traditional, 9th-10th grade Geometry course. Your student gets a full, dedicated year of Geometry; not just Geometry 'folded into' an algebra book. This ensures they master the concepts of geometry, trigonometry, measurement, and spatial thinking without being constantly interrupted by algebra topics. This is cleaner for high school transcripts and aligns perfectly with what colleges expect to see. Since this is a STEM-focused academy, we focus on practical Geometry problems, without getting bogged down in abstract proofs.
  • We intentionally use the classic, early-2000s, Prentice Hall Mathematics series; in this case Geometry, 3rd edition, ISBN-10: 0130625604   Amazon link. This is a classic Geometry book, written before the Common Core era and heavily-digitized, screen-reliant modern textbooks. Since these were the early-2000's U.S. "standard", nearly every lesson has multiple 5-10 minute YouTube explanations.
  • Supplies: You will need 1) a compass Amazon Link , 2) a protractor Amazon link , and 3) an engineer-scale ruler Amazon link .
  • Other supplies: You will also need a scientific calculator (TI-30Xa is perfect, $10).
  • Computer: You will need access to a relatively modern computer with internet connection. A computer less than 5 years old should suffice.  You will need a webcam and mike to participate in the class.
  • Homework: You'll be turning in your homework on Canvas. You will receive a join code.
