Lab
- Thermal Expansion lab. I will post instructions when we get here.
The Big Ideas
Topic 1: Thermal expansion of solids, liquids, and gases
Topic 2: Temperature scales of Celsius, Kelvin, and Fahrenheit
Topic 3: Gas Laws
Topic 1: Thermal expansion of solids, liquids, and gases
- Be able to use the first 2 equations, below, to solve problems connected with thermal expansion.
- You 'look up' the values of alpha and beta in tables. Each substance will be different.
Topic 2: Temperature scales of Celsius, Kelvin, and Fahrenheit
- Be able to convert between all 3 temperature scales
- Always use absolute temperature (Kelvin) when using the gas laws
Topic 3: Gas Laws
- Our main tools are the Combined Gas Law and the Ideal Gas Law.
- Use the Ideal Gas Law when the problem involves the number of moles of gas "n".
- Important: Use the same units for pressure, volume, and 'R', the gas constant. Always use absolute temperature, K.
