- What are AP® classes? They are freshman-college-level classes, taken while you are in high school.
- What are the classes like? You attend the 'regular' version of the class, and then we meet for additional study right after the regular section gets over. We use AP Classroom and do practice problems and gradually learn the material over the course of the year. AP testing happens in May, and although the tests are optional, I encourage everyone to take theirs.
- What do you gain? 1) You get credit for taking the college course... that's why it's called advanced placement... you are "advanced" around the college course, thus saving you time and money, and avoiding crowds and wait-listing which happens with freshman-college classes, 2) you can take the college course now at a slower pace - 2 semesters instead of 1 semester in college - and do so in a small, supportive setting as opposed to a large freshman class, 3) use a 5.0 grading scale, thus raising your GPA, and 4) gain an advantage as it pertains to scholarships and team sports. Scholarship committees like to see AP classes on transcripts.
